Visual Reporting for DSLs: filtering at a glance
LGfL is launching a new reporting platform for Designated Safeguarding Leads which is easy to use. Using interactive dashboards and analytics you will be able to carry out the checks you need to do on internet use in order to comply with DfE Standards for web filtering. This will sit alongside, and considerably enhances, the current excel reports.
What does it mean in practice?
The new visuals are not just a gimmick – the visual representations allow you to see at a glance which search terms are coming up most regularly* which will allow you to identify trends as they occur.
In the same way, you can see the top domains which are blocked or allowed to allow rapid response if you need to allow a teaching and learning site which was inadvertently blocked, or block a site which you wouldn’t want students to be on.
What’s more, whereas previous reports were a moment-in-time snapshot, the new system will allow you to drill down dynamically to find exactly the data you need, e.g. click on a site to see who used it and then click on that user to drill down into their other online behaviour.
How do I sign up?
The new dashboard will be available to all customers using LGfL in-school filtering free of charge from late October.
Switch on Decryption
** Please note that to make the most of this functionality, you must have decryption rolled out at your school.
Decryption allows the filtering platform to read encrypted traffic flows and this is important given that many sites on the World Wide Web are now https://
Turning on decryption is particularly important for search terms which we cannot see unless you have decryption turned on. Find out more about why and how decryption helps at whydecrypt.lgfl.net; pass on to your technical team the instructions for setting up decryption for you here.
