Case Study - Strictly Balletboyz! Stretch for KS3 Dance Specialists
Harris Academies already had a strong commitment to the arts, and particularly to dance. Carla Price is the lead dance practitioner for dance across the network of schools. She used the new LGfL Balletboyz materials to challenge herself and her students to deliver ever-more inventive and unique choreography and performances.

Whilst Harris Academy schools already benefitted from specialist dance input and expert planning,the revised National Curriculum meant that schemes of work needed to be adapted or in somecases rewritten.

What was the impact on learning?

The videos inspired the boys to feel more comfortable learning ballet.

Students' movement vocabulary increased and the teacher felt that it helped them to unlock their potential.

Students are now filming their own performances and using this for self-reflection and peer assessment – this is already radically improving their skills and performance.

The exam-style questions within the resource are also being used to hone students' descriptive skills and background knowledge.
